The style is called AMIGURUMI and you can find a couple of books on amazon.com, but the book of my preference is called Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have joined them as they were made, at least in to manageable pieces. It seemed the sewing together took forever when I was putting the purples and white together. When makign the pinks and white border, I left a "tail" 3x as long as one of the square's edge. I used this tail to sew it to the next one that I made, and so-on, until I had a strip of squares to sew on to the border of the purple and white foot blanket. This seemed to go much more quickly than sewing together a box of squares. I'm not sure how others sew together their squares efficiently without taking forever, but I think I've learned my lesson in waiting 'till the squares outnumbered any bits of patience I had left...lol.
